Donald Trump calls off his United Kingdom visit, admits he’s afraid of facing protesters
Donald Trump has called off his planned visit to the United Kingdom, according to major news outlets on both sides of the pond, and according to one of them he’s flat out admitted to UK Prime Minister that it’s because he’s afraid of the massive protests that he’d face upon his arrival.
Trump called Prime Minister Theresa May weeks ago and informed her that he’s calling off his planned visit to Great Britain, according to The Guardian (link). Notably this phone call took place before the UK elections which all but wiped out May’s political future, so this has nothing to do with her demise. Instead it really does appear to be about Trump simply not wanting to face protesters who don’t like him.
The New York Times is also now confirming that Trump’s UK trip has been called off (link), though it hasn’t gone so far as to confirm the detail about Trump not wanting to face protesters when he gets there. But still, this latest development fits a larger pattern on his part.
Since taking office, Donald Trump hasn’t spent a single night at his primary home at Trump Tower in New York City. There were consistent protests outside Trump Tower when he was living there during the transition period. Now that he’s taken up residence in the White House, he’s vacationed to his own properties more than twenty times in several different states – but he’s never gone back to stay at Trump Tower. It’s been long suspected that he’s been dodging the protesters. And now he’s calling off an entire state visit to a crucial U.S. ally, simply because he can’t handle the protesters who would greet him there.
