During disastrous overseas trip, Donald Trump angrily shouted at foreign leader who “tricked” him
Just how disastrous was Donald Trump’s overseas trip? He offended every one of America’s allies in Europe. He put on such an embarrassing performance that it prompted the Chancellor of Germany to declare that she and her country no longer need the United States. He physically shoved the Prime Minister of Montenegro out of the way. And now it turns out Trump was overheard angrily shouting at yet another foreign leader during the trip, accusing him of having “tricked” him.
Donald Trump met with Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas during his overseas trip and ended up shouting at him, according to an Israeli television news report as relayed by British newspaper the Independent (link). “You tricked me in DC,” Trump angrily shouted at Abbas, in reference to a conversation they’d had in Washington three weeks earlier. Trump’s shouting left the entire room in stunned silence for several minutes.
This incident serves to further underline that not only does Trump fail to understand the basics of diplomacy (don’t angrily shout at a foreign leader when there are other people in the room who will leak it to the media), his abrasive tactics are also failing him rather badly. If Trump is indeed correct that Abbas tricked him earlier this year, it simply demonstrates how easy it is for other world leaders to manipulate him.
Meanwhile, proving he’s an equal opportunity offender when it comes to creating international incidents, Donald Trump was caught having leaked Israeli classified intel to the Russians before his overseas trip, and then he blurted out additional classified details about that Israeli intel while he was holding a joint press conference with the Prime Minister of Israel. Trump has somehow managed to alienate the Israelis and the Palestinians in equal measure, as he seemingly fails to understand how to deal with either side.
