Senator confirms yet another suspicious secret meeting between Jeff Sessions and Russia

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions was already having a terrible day. Former FBI Director James Comey testified this morning that he knew in advance that Sessions would have to recuse himself from the Trump-Russia investigation, due to classified reasons that could only be discussed behind closed doors. Then after that closed door meeting, one of the participating Senators dropped the bombshell on Sessions.

During her MSNBC show this evening, Rachel Maddow revealed that Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia emerged from that closed door meeting and announced that he and his committee are still seeking details of one particular meeting between Jeff Sessions and Russia. This came even as Kyle Griffin of MSNBC pointed out via Twitter that the meeting in question was the one that was reported on a week ago (link). It involved Sessions having met in private with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington DC, after having met at a reception earlier that day.

This now confirms what had been suspected: Jeff Sessions not only lied about Russia meetings under oath during his confirmation hearings, he also lied under oath when he submitted his amended testimony to include some of his Russia meetings. Even if he were able to argue reasonable doubt that he had somehow forgotten the meetings or misunderstood the question during the hearings, he’ll likely have no legal argument for having lied again during his amended testimony.

This may be why James Comey stated today that he knew Jeff Sessions was going to imminently recuse himself two weeks before it happened. It also opens the door for Special Counsel Robert Mueller to squarely target Sessions on a criminal basis in the Trump-Russia probe. The two big questions now seem to be when and if Sessions will resign, and when and if he’ll flip on Trump in order to save himself. If you’re a regular reader, feel free to support Palmer Report
