Report: Donald Trump has resorted to spending most of his day blocking people on Twitter
It first began three months ago: Donald Trump figured out how to block people on Twitter who were sending him mean or angry replies. He started by blocking just a few notable people, but eventually began upping the number significantly. Even after some of his targets sued and a court ruled that he wasn’t allowed to block people (link), he continued doing so. Now comes a report that Trump is pretty much just sitting around blocking people all day out of spite.
Here’s what has been shared by political insider Jon Cooper of the Democratic Coalition Against Trump: “WH source: When he’s not watching Fox News, Donald Trump spends most of each day blocking people on Twitter who think he’s an as*hole” (link). This doesn’t come as a surprise. After a stretch in which it appeared Trump’s tweets were being ghostwritten by a staffer who couldn’t quite get the impersonation right, Trump himself has since clearly retaken control of his account. The results have been eye popping.
Over the past two weeks Donald Trump’s tweets have resumed being full of spelling errors and incorrect punctuation. He’s also renewed his long dormant habit of retweeting and quote-tweeting random followers who have said things he agrees with. Whether by carelessness or design, many of the people he’s retweeted have been either fake accounts, minors, Russian bots, or people who have just gotten done saying something racist in a prior tweet. And now we know that he’s spending as much time blocking people as he is retweeting them.
It’s not just Donald Trump who has developed an affinity for Twitter’s block button. His son Donald Trump Jr. has recently blocked a handful of political figures on Twitter, including Palmer Report. We’re also proud to have been blocked by Donald Trump’s unhinged sidekick Roger Stone. If you find Palmer Report valuable, make a donation.
