Earlier today, someone attempted a minor terrorist attack in New York City. The attempt failed, and there were no fatalities. A few bystanders were injured, and we wish them well on their recovery. That alone is more than the “President” of the United States had to say about the matter. Once it became clear that Donald Trump’s racist Muslim travel ban would not have prevented the attack, he had no interest discussing it. Instead he launched an entirely different kind of racist attack as an attempted distraction.

Trump still hasn’t said anything about the New York attack. Instead he chose to belatedly respond to a New York Times story which was sourced to several of his own people and revealed that Trump watches as much as eight hours of cable news per day: “Another false story, this time in the Failing @nytimes, that I watch 4-8 hours of television a day – Wrong! Also, I seldom, if ever, watch CNN or MSNBC, both of which I consider Fake News. I never watch Don Lemon, who I once called the ‘dumbest man on television!’ Bad Reporting.”

As usual, Trump’s tweet was largely met with derision. Several observers pointed out that of all the dozens of famous MSNBC and CNN personalities Trump could have chosen to attack, he arbitrarily selected Don Lemon – an openly gay black man. This could be written off as happenstance, if not for Trump’s consistent pattern of attacking black public figures whenever he’s trying to create a distraction. But it gets even stranger.

Donald Trump posted this tweet just moments after MSNBC’s Morning Joe was discussing the New York Times story on-air. This means Trump was watching cable news when he learned about the report that he spends all day watching cable news, prompting him to immediately tweet that he doesn’t watch cable news. The operative word here is “busted.”
