Rachel Maddow says she has Trump tax returns
Better get your popcorn. Rachel Maddow, who loves telling a good story during her prime time MSNBC show but always ends up delivering the goods, now says she has “Trump tax returns.” Her brief tweet set off a bombshell across social media moments ago, with her name instantly trending on Twitter as word spread of her announcement.
Here’s the full text of Rachel Maddow’s tweet which caused everyone’s ears to perk up a few minutes ago: “BREAKING: We’ve got Trump tax returns. Tonight, 9pm ET. MSNBC. (Seriously).” There are a few ways to parse that. She didn’t say that she has Donald Trump’s tax returns; is this going to be some kind Eric Trump letdown? Then again, brevity is king on Twitter, so she may have left Donald’s first name off out of habit. And again, Maddow isn’t prone to overplaying her hand. Nor does she often hype an episode in advance in this manner, so she knows she’s setting high expectations.
So what exactly does Maddow have up her sleeve? For her past several episodes on MSNBC, she’s been focused in on the financial relationship between Donald Trump, Deutsche Bank, the Bank of Cyprus, Russian money laundering, and the manner in which recently fired U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara had been looking into all of the above.
