Protesters physically block Betsy DeVos from entering public school
Donald Trump may have been able to get public school saboteur Betsy DeVos confirmed as his Secretary of Education, but the resistance against her is still just getting underway. Two days after the republican majority in the Senate laid down and allowed the unqualified and unsuitable DeVos to be confirmed, she attempted to visit a public school today. But there was such a fierce wall of protesters outside the front of the school that she was ultimately blocked from being able to enter the school.
The surreal scene came after Betsy DeVos emerged as one of the most controversial cabinet nominees of all time. She has a long history of destroying the public school system for personal profit in Michigan, and neither she nor her children have ever attended a public school. During her confirmation hearings it was revealed that she didn’t understand basic educational concepts such as the difference between proficiency and growth. She also posited that schools needed guns to fend off attacks from grizzly bears, turning her into an instant national punchline. But after republicans inexplicably confirmed her anyway, Americans are now taking matters into their own hands.
The scene at the Washington DC public school today was documented by ABC 7 local reporter Sam Sweeney, with Betsy DeVos turning around and leaving the school rather than trying to work her way through the protesters. With DeVos having emerged as one of the most reviled and dangerously inept and corrupt members of the Trump administration, the protests against her are likely to continue wherever she goes.
