Mike Pence says he never saw Elijah Cummings’ letter about Michael Flynn. Democrats have proof he did.
Back in mid November, just days after the election, House Oversight Committee ranking member Elijah Cummings sent a letter to the office of vice-president elect Mike Pence in order to inform him of Michael Flynn’s improper financial ties to foreign government representatives. Pence and Donald Trump ended up naming Flynn as National Security Adviser anyway, before having to get rid of him for that same reason. Now Pence is trying to claim that he never saw the letter – but that’s not going to fly.
With the Russia scandal now deepening by the day, Mike Pence keeps getting caught making false claims about the actions of the Trump administration. At this point Pence’s only remaining defense would be to claim that he hasn’t been privy to what’s really been going on in the administration. But that’s where Rep. Cummings’ letter to Pence from November now comes back into play.
Palmer Report asserted last month that in hindsight, the Democrats may have been using the letter to lay the groundwork for later being able to prove Mike Pence’s complicity in the Russia scandal (link). Not surprisingly, Pence is now claiming that he’s not sure if he ever saw the letter in question. But it turns out the Democrats have proof he did, and they furnished it today.
The House Oversight Democrats have their own official Twitter account, and today they used it to post the letter of receipt that was issued from the transition office. It thanked Elijah Cummings for having sent his letter, and stated that it looked forward to working with him in the new term (link). So now that Mike Pence has been reduced to suggesting that the letter somehow got lost in the mail, even that has been ruled out. Next, will Pence claim his dog ate his homework?
