Mike Pence walked out of an NFL game on Sunday just as it was starting, as a way of protesting against the black football players who were protesting by taking a knee during the national anthem. It’s the first time a public figure has attended an NFL game and protested in favor of racism. Suffice it to say that it didn’t go over well with much of the public, and it certainly wasn’t well received by a number of NFL names. One legend in particular ripped into Pence and Donald Trump both.

Shortly after Pence pulled his stunt, which was supposed to look spontaneous, Trump couldn’t help himself and bragged on Twitter that he’d instructed Pence in advance to do it. Shannon Sharpe, who went into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2011, tweeted that the Trump-Pence stunt was a clown show:

Other players were even less kind. Former Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears star Adewale Ogunleye tweeted that Trump and Pence were “Assclowns all around” before retweeting a message which said “Do you know what a real leader would do at the Colts game? He would have spoken with these men & heard their concerns. Mike Pence just left.” The pattern of NFL players publicly slamming the Trump regime has become a growing trend this past month, and it’s also extended to current players.

For instance, current Buffalo Bills star running back Lesean McCoy tweeted on September 23rd that “It’s really sad man … our president is [an] asshole” after Donald Trump had cursed out Colin Kaepernick. NBA star LeBron James also tweeted that Trump was a “bum.” None of these current and former athletes have faced any form of discipline or censorship from the the teams they play for, or from their post-retirement employers because, well, Trump and Pence are all of the above.
