Robert Mueller meets with House committee where impeachment begins

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller has largely been holding his cards close to the vest throughout his investigation into Donald Trump’s scandals. This has led some to wonder aloud about the progress he’s making. Periodically, Mueller has taken steps which have offered snapshots of where he’s at in the probe. His latest move suggests that he’s a lot further along than we all thought – much further.

Yesterday, Mueller met with the chairman and ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee in bipartisan fashion, according to a San Francisco Chronicle report (link). Few details if any have been provided about what took place during the meeting. But this is the first known instance of Mueller meeting with congressional leaders since the beginning of his investigation. Now that he’s met with Congress again, it points to a major milestone in his investigation. Moreover, he met with the leaders of the specific House committee where the impeachment process begins.

It’s not a given that Mueller met with House Judiciary leaders to talk specifically about the impeachment process. But it’s worth noting that once Mueller wraps up his investigation into Donald Trump and presents his findings, he’ll be making formal recommendations to Congress regarding the crimes he thinks Trump should be impeached for. Harvard Law Professor Laurence Tribe reacted to the news by tweeting that “This could well be a sign that Mueller is farther along than many observers assume.”

Robert Mueller still has plenty of legwork remaining. Based on his known actions, he’s on a path toward prosecuting everyone around Donald Trump who has committed a crime, in order to get them to flip on him. This kind of first hand testimony against Trump would make for an ironclad case against him. While we don’t know precisely how close Mueller is to making that happen, he clearly had something major to share yesterday with the committee where the impeachment process begins.
