Legal expert: Donald Trump’s “downfall is unstoppable”

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Now that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has multiple grand juries underway in his investigation into Donald Trump’s Russia scandal, with subpoenas and document requests flying, it raises the question of how this will play out in the end – as there is relatively little past precedent on this level. But one respected legal scholar now says that we’ve passed the point where Trump might have had any way out of this.

Harvard Law Professor Laurence Tribe may be the foremost authority on the United States Constitution. After one of his followers quoted Fran Lebowitz in saying that “it’s not an administration, it’s a criminal enterprise,” Tribe chimed in. He opined that “It’s the big way Family Trump differs from Family Nixon. And it’s the reason T’s downfall is unstoppable” (link). He went on to explain further: “Nixon could’ve saved his skin by burning the tapes. The only step Trump can take to save his is resignation, and even that might not suffice. John Dean called Watergate a cancer on RN’s presidency; the cancer on DJT’s presidency is DJT, whose family is a crime syndicate in itself.”

When another follower pointed out that Donald Trump has had a history of having gotten away with his various crimes over the years, Professor Tribe replied “But T& Co. haven’t ever been under grand jury scrutiny going back years over all their criminal dealings the world over. It’s a new day.” (link). He makes an important point in his argument. While Nixon did have other scandals, the Watergate scandal was the only thing that could have taken him down, and that was enough on its own.

In contrast, Trump has seemingly committed dozens of different types of serious crimes over several decades, in addition to his Russia scandal. And unlike Nixon, Trump’s own children have been involved in many of those crimes – making him vulnerable in that way as well.
