LeBron James, other athletes slam “bum” and “asshole” Donald Trump after he attacks Steph Curry
Steph Curry and the NBA champion Golden State Warriors had already all but officially decided that they would not be visiting the White House in protest of Donald Trump’s racism, when Trump tried to turn the tables on them today. Trump announced that his invite to the Warriors had been rescinded. This prompted a number of famous athletes, including LeBron James, to unload on him in response.
Trump tweeted “Going to the White House is considered a great honor for a championship team.Stephen Curry is hesitating, therefore invitation is withdrawn!” This prompted Curry’s rival LeBron James to fire back at Trump harshly. “U bum,” he tweeted. “Steph Curry already said he ain’t going! So therefore ain’t no invite. Going to White House was a great honor until you showed up!” (link). As of this moment, LeBron’s response has received eight times as many retweets as Trump’s original tweet received. But he was far from the only notable figure who laid into Trump in response.
Kobe Bryant responded to Trump by tweeting “A POTUS whose name alone creates division and anger. Whose words inspire dissension and hatred can’t possibly ‘Make America Great Again.'” Buffalo Bills star Lesean McCoy was more direct, tweeting “It’s really sad man … our president is [an] asshole.” Even as athletes rushed to defend Steph Curry and slam Trump, another feud between Trump and a professional athlete was also playing out.
Last night Donald Trump referred to NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick as a “son of a bitch” for kneeling during the National Anthem. This prompted Los Angeles Clippers star Chris Paul to unload on Trump, tweeting “With everything that’s going on in our country, why are YOU focused on who’s kneeling and visiting the White House? And I doubt he’s man enough to call any of those players a son of a bitch to their face.”
