Senator Kamala Harris rips into Senate Republicans
Senator Kamala Harris has made a national name for herself by fearlessly questioning witnesses during her committee’s public hearings into Donald Trump’s Russia scandal. But now she’s speaking up on another vital issue: the disastrous health care bill that the Senate Republican leadership is trying to keep secret from all involved.
Harris took to social media to rip into the “TrumpCare” AHCA bill and how the Republican Party is handling it in the Senate (source link): “The ACA went through 106 public hearings, incorporated more than 170 Republican amendments & the entire process took a year. It’s just plain irrational to cut MediCal when 4,600 Californians are dying every year from substance abuse and opioid overdoses. Republicans want to conceal their health care repeal bill because they know it’s nothing short of a disaster.”
She continued: “No public hearings. No debate. No text.No transparency. On behalf of the American people, I demand the GOP show us the bill.” Still, the Senate Republicans are continuing to advance a bill through the Senate despite admitting that almost none of them have been given access to it yet. The Congressional Budget Office has confirmed that the bill would take health care away from at least twenty-three million Americans by repealing ObamaCare and replacing it with a substitute that’s far worse in every measurable way. As such, Kamala Harris and other Democrats are putting their foot down.
The expectation is that the Democrats will filibuster in order to block a vote on the disastrous new health care bill, but there’s still a chance they may not have to. If a mere three Republican Senators are willing to confirm that they’re unwilling to vote for the bill, it’ll be dead on arrival. We’re still waiting to see if there are as many as three Republicans of good character, out of the fifty-two Republicans in the Senate. If you’re a regular reader, feel free to support Palmer Report
