Ivanka Trump’s tweet about Hurricane Irma backfires spectacularly

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Last night, Donald Trump took quite a bit of heat for his bizarre “Here comes Irma” tweet in reference to the deadly hurricane making landfall in Florida. Today we were reminded that Donald isn’t the only criminally tone-deaf member of the Trump family. His daughter Ivanka stepped up and posted a tone-deaf tweet of her own, and let’s just say that it didn’t go over particularly well.

Ivanka tweeted “Sending love and prayers to our brothers and sisters in Florida” – which might have been deemed acceptable if it were coming from someone who has demonstrated the ability to feel empathy, or someone who has earned the right to refer to regular Americans as her “brothers and sisters.” But after Ivanka’s consistently hollow sentiments on issues like climate change and gay rights and equal pay, even as she stands by and does nothing to stop her father from dragging America into the gutter on those issues, the response to her Irma tweet was rather scathing.

One respondent, Diane Russell, asked the serious question that many were thinking: “NOW can you talk to your dad about signing onto the Paris Climate Accord?” Another respondent, Brook Lundy, replied “Oh god, you have more brothers??” Pammie took a cynical, yet appropriate, tone: “Probably trying to figure out how you and your family can make money off this!!!” Roseann Cannon also took objection: “Brothers & sisters?! Hypocrites all! We’re not buying what you & your family of grifters r selling!”

Others weren’t buying what Ivanka Trump was selling, either. Natasha Fatale responded “Who are your brothers and sisters? The 30% who are are stupid enough to approve, the white supremacists. Leave.” Palmer Report couldn’t resist getting in on the action, replying “Ivanka, you’re confused again. We Americans are not your brothers. Your brothers are the ones going to jail.” Contribute to Palmer Report
