How the Democrats took Matt Gaetz down behind the scenes
The Democrats will get no credit for this, because they never do, but they played a key role in forcing Matt Gaetz out. The Democrats still control the Senate Judiciary Committee for the moment, and they used it to formally request the ethics report last night. Gaetz must have thought they were going to get ahold of it, because he withdrew just hours after the request was made.
THIS is how politics works. THIS is how savvy politicians make things happen. Not by screaming into cameras, but by using the leverage that they have. That’s what the Democrats did, and now Matt Gaetz is unemployed.
CNN is trying to take credit for Gaetz withdrawing, saying that they asked Gaetz to comment on new details from the ethics report and he withdrew immediately after. But ask yourself where CNN got the details of the report from. It almost had to have come from the Democrats, right? In such case the Democrats once again knowledgeably worked the system from the inside and got the job done.
Again, the Democrats know how politics works. Most talking heads either do not understand how politics works, or pretend not to understand for effect. Yet these same talking heads always insist that the Democrats aren’t doing anything. Funny how that works.
