GOP Congressman who’s trying to shut down Robert Mueller probe is now under investigation himself

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Earlier this week Republican Congressman Ron DeSantis introduced a provision aimed at sabotaging Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s ability to fully investigate Donald Trump’s Russia scandal. The provision would set a time limit on Mueller’s funding, while also prohibiting him from investigating Trump’s past. The measure is unlikely to go anywhere. But now DeSantis is under investigation himself.

The Democratic Coalition Against Trump confirmed on Tuesday night that it’s now investigating Ron DeSantis for attempting to interfere with Mueller’s probe (link). It marks a swift and fitting turnabout against a GOP Congressman who is clearly trying to help Donald Trump get off the hook for his various crimes and misdeeds.

Meanwhile numerous political pundits have opined that DeSantis’ effort to derail the Mueller investigation is unlikely to gain much traction. Even if the House of Representatives were to include the measure in its upcoming funding legislation, it would have a difficult time getting past the Senate. Just three Republican Senators have to join with all of the Democrats to vote down any given piece of legislation. More than three Republican Senators have already spoken up about the need to give Mueller full latitude.

It’s still unclear what motivated Congressman Ron DeSantis to introduce this likely ill fated proposal, which could serve no practical purpose other than to endear him to Donald Trump or Vladimir Putin. But now that he’s being investigated for it, those answers may end up emerging.
