Donald Trump unwittingly set his impeachment in motion after getting angry that his golf game was rained out
Reports in recent days have confirmed what has long been widely suspected: Special Counsel Robert Mueller is zeroing in on nailing Donald Trump for obstruction of justice in relation to his firing of FBI Director James Comey, which is the shortest path to his impeachment. Now comes confirmation that, incredibly, Trump unwittingly put his own impeachment in motion one day when he was angry after his golf game had gotten rained out.
This week’s big revelation is that Trump and Stephen Miller wrote a letter explaining that Comey was being fired because of the Russia investigation, and that the White House counsel scuttled the letter because it was essentially an admission of obstruction of justice. Robert Mueller now has possession of that first letter, which by all accounts appears be a smoking gun. It turns out that letter was the result of a fateful rainstorm.
Back in May of this year, Trump was on vacation at his golf resort in Bedminster, New Jersey, as per usual. He was supposed to play a round with golfing legend Greg Norman. According to the New York Times it got rained out, and Trump found himself in a bad mood after being pent up indoors (link). That’s when an angry Trump got with Miller, who happened to be there, and crafted that self incriminating letter about why he was firing Comey. Just five days later, Trump fired Comey.
If Donald Trump hadn’t penned that letter on that day or anywhere in that five day window, and had instead simply waited for Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein to write his Comey memo, Robert Mueller might still have eventually found a way to nail Trump for obstruction of justice as well as the various other crimes Trump has committed. But the letter has made it quicker and easier for Mueller to get there. Some have predicted that Trump’s golf antics would sink his presidency – but it turns out his inability to play golf that day has hastened his demise.
