Investigators also target Eric Trump in Donald Trump’s Russia scandal
On a day that saw the Senate Judiciary Committee sending a letter to Donald Trump Jr. formally asking him to publicly testify about his role in the Russia scandal and to preserve documents, it turns out one of Donald Trump’s other sons is being targeted by investigators as well. The committee also sent a letter regarding the Russia scandal to Eric Trump.
The Committee sent one letter addressed solely to Donald Trump Junior. It also sent a second letter (link) to Donald Trump Junior and Eric Trump, addressing it to “Dear Messrs. Trump.” It makes clear that because Eric Trump is the Executive Vice President of the Trump Organization, he’s also being required to turn over all of his own documents and communications with regard to the Russia scandal.
This does not mean that Eric Trump is suspected of having attended his brother’s Russia meeting at Trump Tower, and there is no publicly available evidence to that effect. But it makes clear that the Senate Judiciary Committee investigation is going after both of Trump’s sons in an effort at collecting evidence from them both. If Eric refuses to turn over the documents in question, he’ll be held in contempt of Congress, and could theoretically end up being arrested for it.
Eric Trump has not yet offered any publicly available response to the Senate Judiciary Committee demand letter. But just wait until Donald Trump figures out that both of his sons are now being targeted as part of the Russia scandal investigation. And as we reported four days ago (link), Congress is also eyeing Ivanka Trump in the Russia scandal, as she may have helped to hide her husband Jared Kushner’s meetings with Russia. Now that Trump’s family is about to be torn apart by his own scandal, how will he react? If you find Palmer Report valuable, make a donation.
