Elijah Cummings slams Donald Trump

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Congressman Elijah Cummings has long been working to try to stop Donald Trump’s anti-American agenda and expose Trump’s criminal antics. Cummings has been primarily pursuing this through his role as the ranking member on the House Oversight Committee. However, after Trump posted his most vile tweet to date this morning, Cummings took a more direct approach, ripping into him without holding back.

In case you somehow missed it, Trump tweeted this monstrous garbage this morning: “Lightweight Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a total flunky for Chuck Schumer and someone who would come to my office “begging” for campaign contributions not so long ago (and would do anything for them), is now in the ring fighting against Trump. Very disloyal to Bill & Crooked-USED!” Despite subsequent denials by pathologically lying White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the public had no difficulty figuring out what Trump was implying, and this was widely interpreted as sexual harassment on his part.

Congressman Cummings responded harshly. He tweeted “Donald Trump: I call on you to issue an apology to Senator Gillibrand immediately, take down this tweet, halt your efforts to silence women who speak out, and stop degrading the Office of the Presidency.” He then retweeted this from Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski: “I agree with Rep. Cummings. The President should take down that disgusting tweet.Leaders in DC and in the WH, call on Trump to take it down.” Cummings also retweeted Gillibrand herself, who said “You cannot silence me or the millions of women who have gotten off the sidelines to speak out about the unfitness and shame you have brought to the Oval Office.”

Meanwhile, other congressional leaders are weighing in accordingly. Ted Lieu has called for Donald Trump’s resignation. Jackie Speier has called for the 25th Amendment to be invoked. Trump has yet to respond to the backlash against his horrid tweet.
