Robert Mueller’s job just got a lot easier
Based on his own words, Donald Trump isn’t having a particularly enjoyable Christmas Eve. He’s spent all day tweeting toxic garbage, angry insults, vicious lies, and implied threats against a whole lot of people who don’t deserve it. Special Counsel Robert Mueller, on the other hand, is having a fantastic day. Mueller is not sharing his feelings on Twitter, of course, but a legal expert is spelling out why Mueller’s job just got a lot easier.
Trump has spent the day tweeting dishonest nonsense like this about FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe: “in addition to his wife getting all of this money from M (Clinton Puppet), he was using, allegedly, his FBI Official Email Account to promote her campaign. You obviously cannot do this. These were the people who were investigating Hillary Clinton.” Yesterday Trump tweeted an apparent threat against McCabe’s pension: “FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe is racing the clock to retire with full benefits. 90 days to go?!!!”
Trump’s reason for attacking, threatening, and lying about Andrew McCabe is fairly transparent. McCabe is a witness who can testify that Trump committed obstruction of justice by trying to coerce then-FBI Director James Comey into rigging the Russia investigation. Trump is trying to scare McCabe into not testifying against him. Of course in so doing, Trump is committing witness tampering for all to see.
Respected legal expert Richard Painter posted this tweet summing up Donald Trump’s tweets: “Using Twitter on Christmas Eve to intimidate a witness (McCabe) in a criminal investigation is not a very Christian way to celebrate the holiday. But it does make Mr. Mueller’s job easier and that’s a nice thing to do. Merry Christmas!” In other words, Robert Mueller’s job just got a lot easier when it comes to proving that Trump is guilty of committing serious crimes.
