Carter Page goes completely berserk
Throughout the course of the Trump-Russia scandal and investigation, little about Carter Page has made sense. He was a Donald Trump campaign adviser who traveled to Moscow during the election and met a key member of the Russian government, which the campaign higher-ups knew about at the time, and that’s when the story gets fuzzy. Page keeps appearing on TV and admitting to things for no apparent reason. Now, as the scandal grows even bigger, Page has gone completely berserk.
Carter Page has sent a fifteen page letter to Senate Judiciary Committee ranking member Dianne Feinstein about how he believes he’s been mischaracterized and mistreated. Here’s one sentence that pretty much sums up the rest of the letter: “I believe if you surveyed Senator Franken’s harassment victims, a vast majority of them would most likely prefer being briefly groped rather than suffer the severe invasion of privacy and other historic abuses that I’ve continued to undergo based on the groundless Witch Hunt.” (link). No really, he said this. What’s he even doing at this point?
We’re not even sure what to say about the absurd notion that having one’s privacy violated is somehow worse than having one’s body violated (hint: wrong answer, Carter). We might also suggest that if you don’t want to face public scrutiny, you probably shouldn’t become an adviser for a presidential campaign, and then travel to a hostile foreign country and meet with its government during the election. Regardless of whether his actions were part of some criminal conspiracy or just very stupid, his actions begged for media scrutiny. But the real question here may be why Page is sending this letter now, long after he’s fallen off the media’s radar and largely been forgotten about.
There are two possible explanations. One is that Carter Page thinks (correctly or incorrectly) that he’s about to come front and center in the Trump-Russia scandal again, and he’s trying to preemptively fight back. The other is that because he’s fallen off the radar, he’s writing this offensive letter to try to get himself back into the public eye because he misses the attention. In case it’s the latter, we’re done writing about him and his antics after today, unless he does indeed become relevant to the Trump-Russia investigation again.
