British Prime Minister Theresa May rebukes Donald Trump tweet

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Donald Trump has found a new way to humiliate the United States while causing tangible problems for a major U.S. ally. Trump tweeted something so stupid and dangerous that it made a difficult and still-unfolding situation in the United Kingdom all the more challenging. Trump’s bumbling international incidents are nothing new since he’s taken office. This time he’s being called out for it, however, as British Prime Minister Theresa May has told him to knock it off – as have the British police.

It all started when a terror attack in London led Trump to post the following tweet: “Another attack in London by a loser terrorist. These are sick and demented people who were in the sights of Scotland Yard. Must be proactive!” If that tweet leaves you with the impression that Trump making reckless accusations without knowing the facts, it turns out you’re correct. That’s when the high level pushback began.

Jim Sciutto of CNN reported that in response to Trump’s tweet, “London Metropolitan Police have reacted calling this ‘pure speculation’ and ‘unhelpful.’ The AFP then ran with the headline “British PM May tells Trump not to ‘speculate’ on London attack.” Within a span of a few minutes, Trump had been rebuked by both the political leader of the United Kingdom and its law enforcement community.

This is far from the first, or for that matter the tenth, instance in which Donald Trump has created an international incident by saying or tweeting something ignorant and inappropriate. In this instance, however, the self proclaimed “law and order president” opened his mouth in a way which interfered with an ally’s response to a terrorist attack while it was still playing out. We can now add Theresa May to the list of world leaders who have had to essentially tell Trump to shut up.
