Donald Trump goes berserk after his endorsement of Roy Moore backfires
Donald Trump’s recent endorsement of accused child molester Roy Moore isn’t working out particularly well for him. Moore continues to sink in the polls, even as it’s placed renewed focus on Trump’s own admitted history of sexual assault. The endorsement has even driven a wedge between Trump and his daughter. Now that the whole thing is backfiring on him, Trump is predictably going berserk about it for all to see.
Trump posted two tweets this morning regarding the Roy Moore endorsement. The first was a lying, berserk, caps-filled meltdown: “The last thing we need in Alabama and the U.S. Senate is a Schumer/Pelosi puppet who is WEAK on Crime, WEAK on the Border, Bad for our Military and our great Vets, Bad for our 2nd Amendment, AND WANTS TO RAISES TAXES TO THE SKY. Jones would be a disaster!” Trump’s second tweet on the matter was more revealing.
Donald Trump went on to tweet this: “I endorsed Luther Strange in the Alabama Primary. He shot way up in the polls but it wasn’t enough. Can’t let Schumer/Pelosi win this race. Liberal Jones would be BAD!” So now we can see that, even as he angrily drools all over his Twitter keyboard, he’s trying to distance himself from the failed endorsement. First, he’s reminding us that Roy Moore wasn’t his first pick in the Alabama race; Strange was.
Second, Trump is claiming that his endorsement of Strange caused a boost in the polls. That never happened, as Strange went on to lose to Moore by double digits. But it’s clear Trump is looking to be able to claim he helped Moore, just not enough to put him over the top, if Moore loses. Of course that will also be a lie, as the race was basically tied at the time Trump endorsed Moore. If Moore loses, it’ll be definitive proof that Trump can’t put anyone over the top, and that he’s arguably hurting Republican candidates by endorsing them. No wonder he’s going berserk about it.
