“To bad”: illiterate Donald Trump attacks James Clapper and Mitch McConnell in surreal meltdown
You saw it coming. Donald Trump semi-behaved himself during his speech in Reno to the American Legion yesterday. So that meant he was going to have an unhinged meltdown today to compensate for it. This morning that translated into a deranged Twitter attack on the likes of James Clapper and Mitch McConnell, which saw Trump even more illiterate than usual.
Trump began the morning by trying to blame his failed legislative agenda, which has been derailed by his own sideshows, on the Republicans and Democrats: “I requested that Mitch M & Paul R tie the Debt Ceiling legislation into the popular V.A. Bill (which just passed) for easy approval. They didn’t do it so now we have a big deal with Dems holding them up (as usual) on Debt Ceiling approval. Could have been so easy-now a mess!” We assume that by “Paul R” he meant Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, and not, in fact, Pee Wee Herman actor Paul Reubens. But from there things got worse.
From there Trump continued to defend his flip-flopping response to the Charlottesville terrorist attack, which saw him blaming both sides on one day, blaming white supremacists the next day, and then defending white supremacists the day after that: “The Fake News is now complaining about my different types of back to back speeches. Well, there was Afghanistan (somber), the big Rally (enthusiastic, dynamic and fun) and the American Legion – V.A. (respectful and strong). Too bad the Dems have no one who can change tones!” The trouble here is that Trump actually tweeted “to bad” and had to delete it before tweeting “to bad” again, with his staff presumably stepping in and correcting it to “too bad” on the third try.
Trump also took another shot at Mitch McConnell: “The only problem I have with Mitch McConnell is that, after hearing Repeal & Replace for 7 years, he failed! That should NEVER have happened!” But then he went after retired Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, who worked for ten Presidents and is universally respected.
Donald Trump tweeted: “James Clapper, who famously got caught lying to Congress, is now an authority on Donald Trump. Will he show you his beautiful letter to me?” Trump is too much of a narcissist to understand that Clapper would only have written him a polite letter upon taking office as a courtesy. And yet this clown still hasn’t been impeached. That’s both “to bad” and “too bad.”
