Ann Coulter turns against Donald Trump

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

When possible I try to avoid giving any form of publicity to someone like Ann Coulter, who tries to incite racist hatred and divisiveness just so she can sell more copies of her books. She doesn’t believe in any of the incendiary garbage she spews, she just believes in profiting by spewing it. But it is notable that she’s now turned pretty sharply against Donald Trump in the past few days, because it tells us how she’s placing her bets about Trump’s own base.

After Trump announced last night that he’s digging in even deeper into the Afghanistan War, Ann Coulter tweeted this: “It doesn’t matter who you vote for. The military-industrial complex wins. Only difference: GOP presidents pronounce ‘Pakistan’ correctly.” Of course she’s wrong on a number of levels. The Republican Party created the Afghanistan quagmire to begin with. And it’s President Obama who pronounces Pakistan correctly. But the takeaway here is that, less than a year after Coulter encouraged the scum of the earth to vote for Trump, she’s now telling them not to bother voting at all. And there’s more.

Ann Coulter is also attacking Trump over his decision to fire Steve Bannon. She even tweeted a link to a liberal news site whose headline reads “Steve Bannon believed in Trumpism. Donald Trump doesn’t.” Again, Coulter doesn’t believe in anything, beyond saying whatever she thinks will cause hate mongers to buy more of her books. But it’s notable that she’s now turning against Trump, because it means that’s where she thinks the money is going to be.

Coulter is now betting that she can get the ugly fringe right to buy more of her books by attacking Donald Trump than she could if she continued to praise him. It’s a sign that Trump’s grasp on his racist base is indeed tenuous, and that his recent moves like firing Bannon and trying to salvage Afghanistan can cost him his remaining support.
