Ivanka Trump still doesn’t get it
It happened yet again this weekend. Ivanka Trump, who can have as much influence over her father as she wants, has decided not to bother using it. Instead she’s merely opting to protect her own personal brand and try to make herself look good by issuing words that ring fully hollow in light of her lack of meaningful action.
Last week, while Donald Trump was busy defending white supremacists and making race relations worse in the process, Ivanka Trump was tweeting platitudes like “There should be no place in society for racism, white supremacy and neo-nazis” and “We must all come together as Americans — and be one country UNITED.” That would have been all well and good if she were doing anything about it. But instead she was busy vacationing in Vermont, not even bothering to show up and do her imaginary but official job in the White House. And this weekend she pulled the same crap again.
Last night Ivanka tweeted “It was beautiful to see thousands of people across the U.S.A come together today to peacefully denounce bigotry, racism & anti-semitism” and “We must continue to come together, united as Americans!” But these words mean nothing as long as her father continues to spout racist sentiments and push racist policies and drag America into the gutter.
If Ivanka Trump cared about America, or for that matter cared about her father, she’d either be in there steering him in the right direction or she’d be convincing him to resign. Instead she’s doing nothing – which under these circumstances is the wrong thing. By saying the right thing and doing the wrong thing, Ivanka is only serving to give Donald cover for continuing to drag himself and the nation downward. Is she a coward, is she just that selfish, or does she simply not care?
