Now we know why Republican Senator Bob Corker came out swinging at Donald Trump

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Six days ago, powerful Republican Senator Bob Corker – who has always chosen his words carefully – made headlines when he publicly questioned whether Donald Trump was mentally stable enough to be president (link). Now the details are leaking out about what was privately going on between Trump and Corker during that same timeframe, which explains Corker’s explosive public reaction.

While Congress was recently considering the Russian sanctions bill, Donald Trump called up Senator Bob Corker and tried to bully him into standing against the bill, according to a new Politico report (link). That effort failed, as Corker was one of ninety-eight Senators who voted for the bill. It also passed the House, and it’s now law. Sure enough, once Trump screwed up his Charlottesville response a couple of weeks later, Corker decided to use the occasion to publicly hit Trump hard. And it turns out Corker isn’t the only GOP Senator whom Trump targeted.

Trump also called up Republican Senator Thom Tillis and demanded that he put a stop to the Russian sanctions bill. Up to now Tillis hasn’t yet hit back publicly at Trump. But if he finds himself as offended by the bullying as Corker clearly does, then it may be a matter of time before Tillis begins hitting him as well. At this point Trump is feuding with so many Republican Senators, it’s difficult to figure out how he thinks he can fight his own party on this many fronts.

Yesterday it was revealed that Donald Trump called up Mitch McConnell a couple weeks ago and the two ended up getting into a profane shouting match (link). Trump has also recently publicly targeted Jeff Flake, John McCain, and Lisa Murkowski among others. The more aggressively Trump targets the Republican Congress, the more interested they may be in impeaching him. Trump seems to be trying to figure out how to get himself ousted.
