White House throws Jeff Sessions under Russia bus, as Donald Trump skips town again

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

The day after it was revealed that Attorney General Jeff Sessions repeatedly met with the Russian Ambassador while he was a surrogate for the Donald Trump campaign, it appears Trump is leaving Sessions to fend for himself – both figuratively and literally. The White House put out a statement distancing itself from his actions, even as Donald Trump quickly left town today.

Sessions acknowledged last night that he had indeed met with the Russian Ambassador during the campaign, but claimed that he hadn’t discussed the campaign. However this means he perjured himself one way or the other when he testified under oath before the Senate last month that he’d had no contact with the Russians at all during the campaign. And today the White House put out a statement insisting that no one in the Trump campaign or administration knew Sessions had been in contact with the Russians. In other words, Trump is hanging Sessions out to dry. Worse, Trump skipped town.

Donald Trump bailed from the White House on Marine One today in order to make a stuntlike appearance on the USS Gerald R Ford in Newport News, Virginia. He’ll claim the event was already pre-planned. But skeptics will posit that it was put together today as an attempt at distracting from the Jeff Sessions-Russia news currently dominating the headlines, as well as an attempt at physically getting himself away from an imploding White House. Help us investigate Trump-Russia!
