Donald Trump returns from long vacation more whiny and disoriented than ever

Donald Trump’s ill-timed seventeen day golf vacation began at a time when his approval rating was at a record low, his own party was turning against him, and his staff was crumbling. He’s wrapped up that vacation with an even lower approval rating, even more dissent from his party, even more people departed from his staff, and tens of thousands of people protesting against him and his base. And based on his own words, he’s returning to the White House more cranky and disoriented and unfit than ever.

The first disturbing sign of trouble came when Trump tweeted the following divisive nonsense on Sunday evening: “Heading back to Washington after working hard and watching some of the worst and most dishonest Fake News reporting I have ever seen!” (link). That swiftly brought to an end his brief period of tweeting nice things, which predictably only lasted around twenty-four hours. This serves to demonstrate that his whiny, combative, immature nature is simply who he is, and that the prolonged vacation did nothing to change him. But then his behavior got far more disturbing.

A reporter asked Donald Trump about Sunday’s late evening collision between the USS John McCain and another vessel off the coast of Singapore. According to the Washington Post, Trump’s response was simply “That’s too bad” (link). That kind of disoriented response suggested that Trump wasn’t even aware the incident had happened, even though his military advisers had surely attempted to brief him on it. And he appeared to have no idea what to say about it. Even a simple reassuring message, such as saying that everything possible is being done to find the missing sailors, evaded him.

And so if anyone was hoping that Donald Trump’s super-long vacation would leave him more calm and collected and capable of leading, or even of thinking coherently, that turns out to have been little more than wishful thinking. Trump is just as unfit, and just as in need of being impeached and removed, as ever. If you find Palmer Report valuable, make a donation.
