Donald Trump gives away a lot by talking about Trump-Russia “collusion tapes”

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Donald Trump is increasingly presenting as an incoherent lunatic, and at this point the only meaningful debate is whether he’s staging it as some sort of distraction or whether he’s truly slipping into profound mental incompetence. There’s ample evidence to support either or both. But in the midst of a multi-day period in which Trump has been absolutely certain that he’s about to get hit with evidence of collusion, his key giveaway has been lost in the shuffle.

I’m going to momentarily take you back to June 26th, right around the time the major newspapers would have been asking the White House for comment on whatever stories they’re working on with regard to Trump-Russia collusion, whether it be Peter W. Smith or something bigger. Before Trump decided that his best play (or his funnest meltdown move) was to start attacking reporters in repulsive and violent fashion, he briefly tried directly defending himself from collusion charges. He even used that word. And he unwittingly gave away a lot.

Here’s what Donald Trump tweeted that day: “The real story is that President Obama did NOTHING after being informed in August about Russian meddling. With 4 months looking at Russia under a magnifying glass, they have zero ‘tapes’ of T people colluding. There is no collusion & no obstruction. I should be given apology!” (link). Wait a minute here. No one has been talking about collusion tapes. Not even his hated Morning Joe or his despised CNN. So what the hell is he talking about?

Okay, so Palmer Report has been reporting for some time on intel community sourcing that there are collusion tapes. But that’s just us. We suspect Trump reads us, but he isn’t defending himself against a mere Palmer Report article. Instead, he’s defending himself against what he fears the mainstream media is about to report. His oddly specific denial about collusion tapes means there probably are collusion tapes – and he thinks the media has found those tapes. The only question now is whether he’s right.
