Tone-deaf Donald Trump seems really impressed with how powerful Hurricane Harvey is
Earlier this afternoon we brought you the story of how Donald Trump couldn’t manage to come up with anything better to say than “Good luck” when he was asked what his message was for those in the path of Hurricane Harvey (link). It was crass, tone-deaf, and it revealed that he truly doesn’t understand he’s responsible for the safety of the American people. But now he’s already found a way to be even more tone-deaf about the hurricane. Worse, his team got their wires crossed about it.
Shortly after the “good luck” incident, Trump’s staff appeared to try to clean up the mess by posting this tweet on his official Twitter account: “Just arrived at Camp David where I am closely watching the path and doings of Hurricane Harvey, as it strengthens to a Category 3. BE SAFE!” But the staff got its wires crossed one way or the other, because just nine minutes later, his account posted a highly similar yet less-refined tweet that appeared to have been written by Trump himself: “Just arrived at Camp David, where I am monitoring the path and doings of Hurricane Harvey (as it strengthens to a Class 3). 125 MPH winds!”
Remarkably, twenty-five minutes later, neither tweet has been deleted. That leave his Twitter account looking like this:
So if Donald Trump wrote the second tone-deaf tweet, where he mistakenly said “Class 3” instead of “Category 3” and he seemed to be really impressed with how strong and deadly the 125 MPH winds are, who wrote the first tweet? Why do these tweets read suspiciously the same? It’s as if the second tweet was a rough draft written by Trump himself, and the first tweet was a finalized version that had been cleaned up by a staffer, and then they all got confused about when and what to post. Whatever went wrong with these two tweets, Trump’s staff still hasn’t spotted the problem.
