Did someone slip Donald Trump a tranquilizer?
Donald Trump is in the midst of the worst weekend of his life up to this point. What little is left of his presidency is about to get set on fire by the impending arrest of one or more of his Trump-Russia co-conspirators on Monday. It’s possible, even probable, that every week of Trump’s life will get worse from here on out. So what’s his response? He’s just having a happy go lucky time of it this weekend, and he says he doesn’t have a care in the world.
That’s what Trump’s attorney claims, at least. Ty Cobb is insisting that when it comes to Paul Manafort and Michael Flynn, Trump has “no concerns in terms of any impact, as to what happens to them, on his campaign or on the White House” (link). That’s remarkable, considering that those are the guys most likely to end up in handcuffs when this weekend is over – and that they’re each facing the kind of criminal charges that could send them to prison for life if they don’t cut a deal and flip on Trump.
Much as one might be tempted to assume that Cobb is lying just to keep up the appearance that Trump is unfazed by any of this, consider that Trump spent Saturday morning going golfing as usual. Then he had dinner at the restaurant at his own Washington DC hotel. Does this guy not understand that his life as he knows it is probably over by the time the sun sets on Monday? Does he not get that there’s no longer any way this can end less than horribly for him?
Donald Trump, particularly in recent years, has been defined by his rage issues and angry lack of self control. Now that his worst nightmare is officially happening, are we to believe that he doesn’t understand what he’s facing, or that he’s just meekly given up? Did someone slip Donald Trump a tranquilizer?
