Latest chapter in the Donald Trump Russia spy novel ends on shocking Darrell Issa cliffhanger

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Years ago I bought an international spy novel at an airport gift shop just so I’d have something to do on the plane. It turned out to be so absurdly plotted and unrealistic that even after the flight landed, I was oddly compelled to keep reading, because I knew the ending would have to be completely bonkers. And that’s about where we are now in the ongoing spy novel known as Donald Trump’s Russia scandal.

The major leaks which surfaced on Thursday and Friday pointed to this being a pivotal chapter in the spy novel – but that was before normally reliable villain Darrell Issa showed up entirely out of character and left us with cliffhanger. Trump’s White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus was caught pressuring the FBI over its Trump Russia investigation, and then another White House figure (probably also him) was caught pressuring Republicans in Congress to mislead the media about the investigation, meaning someone on their side had to step up and tamp things down.

So when shamelessly partisan Republican Congressman Darrell Issa surfaced on Real Time with Bill Maher on Friday night, one half expected him to announce a phony new investigation into Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama just to try to create a diversion from Trump-Russia. Instead, Issa called for his friend Attorney General Jeff Sessions to recuse himself so that an independent special prosecutor could lead a serious Trump-Russia investigation. Even Maher seemed stunned at what he was being told.

But Issa’s shocking Friday night reveal turned out to have merely a cliffhanger at the end of the chapter. He now knows something about Trump-Russia we don’t, or he wouldn’t be trying to prominently throw the president of his own party under the bus. And yet because it’s the weekend, it still hasn’t leaked out just what caused Issa to suddenly go running away from Donald Trump. The next chapter in this increasingly ludicrous airport gift shop spy novel begins tomorrow. Contribute to Palmer Report
