Shut the hell up, Ivanka Trump

For the entirety of Donald Trump’s time in politics, optimists and apologists have held out hope that his daughter Ivanka would be able to rein him in from his most extremist and destructive political stances. We’ve seen time and again that this is nothing more than a myth. Worse, by pretending she’s more evolved than he is, and by pretending that she has political influence over him, Ivanka has given her father false cover. It’s time for her to go.

For all her efforts at talking a good game on social issues, Ivanka Trump has had no impact on her father when it’s come to his radical and extremist policies such as banning Muslims from entering the country, or banning transgender people from the military. For that matter there’s no evidence that she’s even really trying. This is little more than a public relations exercise for her, as she talks a good game in the hope of keeping her own personal brand intact, even while she stands by her father amid his every heinous move. For Ivanka, today represented an all-time low.

After Donald spent yesterday refusing to denounce the violence being carried out by his own Nazi and white supremacist supporters, Ivanka posted the following on Twitter this morning: “There should be no place in society for racism, white supremacy and neo-nazis. We must all come together as Americans — and be one country UNITED.” (link). At this point America’s response should be to tell her to shut the hell up.

Sure enough, as today went on, her father never did denounce the Nazis and white supremacists. His administration put out a statement falsely claiming that he did denounce them. For all we know, Ivanka may have written the statement. If she wanted to make things right, she’d convince her father to resign, or she’d turn state’s evidence against him. Instead she merely wants to pretend she’s reasonable, all while standing by his increasingly fascist and murderous criminal reign. She’d be better off, and so would we, if she’d just shut up and go home to New York. Photo credit: Marc Nozell
