In wake of Jeff Sessions flap, Rudy Giuliani distances himself from Donald Trump

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Ever since Rudy Giuliani’s scandals became too hot and heavy during the transition period for him to be confirmed to a cabinet position, he’s been out of the public eye. He’s been holding a made-up White House cybersecurity post, presumably waiting in the wings until he became less radioactive and Trump could go ahead and give him a high level job. But as of today, Giuliani’s own comments suggest he may have turned against Trump.

Word leaked out on Monday that Donald Trump was considering Rudy Giuliani as his new Attorney General, once he manages to finish forcing out Jeff Sessions. But this prompted Giuliani to make a rare media engagement just so he could say that he doesn’t want the job, and that he thinks Sessions made the right move by recusing himself from the Russia probe (source: link). This represents a direct break from Trump’s own recently and emphatically stated position that Sessions should not have recused himself.

It tells us Giuliani no longer cares about landing a high level job with Trump, as he’s likely closed that door forever by publicly going against Trump on something this important to him. It also suggests that Giuliani is more than a little upset with the way that Trump is treating Jeff Sessions. And that makes sense. Who would want to take a job after the boss disloyally created the opening by torturing the last loyal guy into quitting? In fact, Giuliani isn’t the only one in Trump’s orbit who seems to view it this way.

News surfaced yesterday that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is considering resigning in protest of how Trump is treating Sessions (link). So Trump’s total lack of loyalty to one of his own most personally loyal campaign surrogates may have poisoned the water more than Trump knows. If it’s even turned his old pal Rudy Giuliani against him, who knows how many more of Trump’s top loyal people are now looking at him differently in light of the Sessions incident.
