Donald Trump Jr has had to go back and testify before Congress about his role in the Trump-Russia scandal yet again today, just a week after the last time he testified before Congress about the Trump-Russia scandal. Last time around he implicated Hope Hicks in the scandal. Since that time, Hicks appears to have turned around and implicated him. Now Junior is on the ropes. It’s not by accident. Mueller played them both against each other like a fiddle.

Dating back to the first half of November, various mainstream media outlets began reporting that Hicks was going to be the first person Mueller interviewed in Donald Trump’s White House. Despite that consistent narrative, which was almost certainly planted in the media by Mueller himself, it did not play out that way. Mueller interviewed others like Stephen Miller and Don McGahn first, while putting off Hicks. Then, the day after Donald Trump Jr testified to Congress that he had told Hicks about his Russia meeting at Trump Tower, suddenly Mueller interviewed Hicks.

In hindsight, Mueller was waiting until Junior appeared before Congress. He knew the Democrats on the committee would ask Junior about Hicks. Junior’s answer was then given to the media by the Democrats, meaning Mueller knew exactly how to come at Hicks. It’s why he interviewed her less than a day later. We don’t yet know for sure what Hicks told Mueller, but we do know that the interview lasted for two full days, which means she almost certainly gave up everything on everyone. We also know that Trump went ballistic afterward and comically tried to forbid his other advisers from speaking with Mueller, because even Trump was able to figure out that Hicks sold him out under pressure.

So now we know that Robert Mueller timed things such that Donald Trump Jr would have to sell out Hope Hicks, and then Hicks would have to sell out Donald Trump. Mueller played all of them like a fiddle – and he’s clearly just getting started, as he has Congress grilling Junior today for even more crucial pieces of the puzzle.
