Resentful White House staffers kick dirt on Jared Kushner after he’s busted in Russia scandal

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Donald Trump’s chaotic White House has generally been somewhere between Game Of Thrones and Game Of Spies, with power quickly shifting back and forth between sycophantic staffers depending on what mood the erratic Trump happens to be in that week. But the recent rise of Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner has created a particular level of resentment that’s now seeping out in light of his getting busted in the Russia scandal.

Trump’s staffers have largely been willing to diss each other anonymously in the media in order to try to get ahead, and now that Kushner is down, they’re making a point of kicking him. In a new piece from Politico, it’s clear that Kushner is deeply and widely resented for using his position as Trump’s son-in-law to try to take over the White House.

They roll their eyes at Kushner’s moves. They’re feeling “schadenfreude” at the idea of him going down over Russia. They think it’s “about time for him to have a turn under the gun” (link). It’s clear that they see Kushner’s current troubles as an opportunity to help push him down a rung, and in the process gain personal power for themselves. It helps explain why Donald Trump’s White House is failing so badly.

When a senior White House adviser is caught up in a major scandal that threatens to bring down the entire administration, the other staffers should either feel sympathetic for what their colleague is going through, or angry that their colleague has made such a mess for everyone involved. Instead, Donald Trump’s White House staff seems to be taking delight in Jared Kushner’s potential demise. It points to Trump surrounding himself with people of the wrong kind of character to begin with, and managing them in the most counterproductive way possible.
