The real reason behind Donald Trump’s demotion of Sean Spicer revealed: Melania’s behind it

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Yesterday we brought you word that Donald Trump is effectively demoting Sean Spicer (link) by significantly reducing the number of press briefings he’ll be allowed to do going forward, in favor of relegating him to a background role that doesn’t appear to consist of anything. Now comes word of why Trump is really doing it.

On some level Donald Trump is clearly looking for one or more scapegoats for his own scandals and failures, as we laid out last night. But why Sean Spicer? Sure he’s been consistently incompetent, but so have most of the people on Trump’s White House staff. As it turns out, Trump’s wife Melania spends as much time watching cable news he does, and according to Politico, she wants Spicer gone from the airwaves (link). Why? Like the rest of you, Melania thinks Spicer sucks at his job.

I’m not a big fan of Melania Trump, but I don’t see it as being improper for her to point out to her husband that one of his highest ranking employees is woefully incompetent. It would be different if she were trying to get rid of Spicer due to some kind of personal grudge, but there doesn’t appear to be any of that. The problem here isn’t with Melania; it’s with Donald himself.

Everyone who’s watched Sean Spicer’s briefings knows that he’s objectively terrible at doing press briefings. It’s not just his worst moments, where he gave out his own password or sort of defended Hitler. It’s that he’s very rarely had any good moments on the job. Everyone watching him, you, me, Melania, you name it, can see that Spicer is in the wrong job. But Donald Trump doesn’t see it; all he sees is a guy who’s willing to loyally lie for him each day, which is enough for him – and that’s the problem.
