Total chaos: Donald Trump privately flip flops on yet another major issue, then disputes himself

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

In a sign of just how little conviction Donald Trump has in his own positions on the issues, and just how cravenly he’s willing to flip flop on his core positions as he desperately tries to keep his ship from sinking, one faction of the Trump administration stated privately this evening that Trump had changed his mind on the Paris climate accord. In a sign of just how ineptly chaotic his administration has become, it disputed itself just moments later.

The chaos started when a European climate representative told the Wall Street Journal that the Trump administration expressed an interest in remaining with the Paris climate accord after all (link). This set off alarms across the board, because it would represent a total reversal of Trump’s publicly stated decision in June to unilaterally abandon the accord. Even as the public tried to figure out what was really going on, the Trump administration stepped forward to reveal that it had no idea what was going on either.

Just thirty-nine minutes after the Wall Street Journal report, the Trump administration told CNN that the U.S. would indeed still be abandoning the Paris climate accord (link). It appears that Donald Trump — or whoever is calling the shots in his increasingly unstable and unstaffed White House — is now toying with the idea of flip flopping on climate change, but can’t get its own story straight internally. This is just the latest sign of total chaos over the past week.

In a similarly self-contradicting sign of indecisive chaos, Donald Trump had dinner with Democratic leaders and cut a deal to flip flop on DACA and the border wall. Just twenty minutes after the Democrats announced the deal, Trump’s White House announced that there never was any such deal. Days later, Trump tweeted his support for DACA, confirming his flip flop, while admitting the “wall” was never going to be anything more than a refurbished fence. So it’s now anyone’s guess as to whether Trump will or won’t rejoin the Paris climate accord. Trump sure as hell doesn’t know. Contribute to Palmer Report
