Former acting Attorney General Sally Yates testified before a Senate subcommittee today as part of its ongoing investigation into Donald Trump’s Russia scandal. But hours beforehand, a bombshell leaked out in the media which put Trump’s firing of Yates into clearer context: President Obama warned Trump that Michael Flynn was bad news all the way back in November.

This new revelation today came by way of the New York Times, which revealed that Obama told Trump during the first days of the transition period that he should avoid hiring Michael Flynn for his administration (link). This completely discounts Trump’s subsequent claim that he only hired Flynn because Obama had previously hired Flynn. But this news does more than merely underline the fact that Obama had fired Flynn in 2014. It also casts a different light on Trump’s firing of Sally Yates.

This means that by the time Sally Yates tried to warn Donald Trump about Michael Flynn’s illicit connections to Russia, Trump had already been made aware of Flynn’s other problems by Obama. This means Trump knew Flynn was dirty before even hearing from Yates about Flynn. In other words, Yates was at least the second prominent person who had tried to warn him about it.

And yet Trump still responded by firing Sally Yates a few days later, and knowingly keeping a dirty Michael Flynn on board until media leaks later forced Flynn out. This casts even more suspicion on Trump’s firing of Yates. Help fund Palmer Report
