Donald Trump is completely melting down over his Niger scandal
Donald Trump was in trouble earlier this week when the media finally figured out that he never had called the families of the four U.S. soldiers killed in Niger on October 4th, and confronted him on it. It meant that whatever he was trying to cover up about the military op in Niger, that attempt had failed. Since that time, Trump has become more unhinged about it by the day – and now he’s completely melting down in real time.
Trump ultimately made the phone calls to those four families after being called out for it by the media. But he botched it by telling the pregnant widow of one of the soldiers that her husband “knew what he signed up for.” Trump didn’t know that he was on speakerphone and that a local Congresswoman happened to be listening in, who publicly called him out for it. That sent him into a total tailspin.
On Wednesday, Trump tweeted “Democrat Congresswoman totally fabricated what I said to the wife of a soldier who died in action (and I have proof). Sad!” But it turns out he was simply making that up, and he no proof. By Thursday afternoon, he was sending John Kelly to the podium to admit that the remark had been made, but to try to defend its context. Trump apparently couldn’t handle his own Chief of Staff having admitted to the entire world that Trump had lied – so by Thursday night he was frantically tweeting “The Fake News is going crazy with wacky Congresswoman Wilson(D), who was SECRETLY on a very personal call, and gave a total lie on content!”
Donald Trump is now in total meltdown mode. The worst part for him is that now he has to keep the controversy with the soldier’s widow going, even though it makes him look terrible, because it’s the only thing standing in the way of the media fully focusing on why Trump had U.S. soldiers in a risky position in Niger. Once those scandalous details come out, which appear to involve Niger’s recent military partnership with Russia, that’s when Trump’s meltdown will be complete.
