NBC News aired an interview this evening which saw Megyn Kelly interviewing Russian President Vladimir Putin, and if you missed it, you didn’t miss much. Kelly wasn’t able to get Putin to say anything that he didn’t want to, but on the other hand, nor did she do anything to embarrass herself. The interview did yield one startling revelation, if only by default – and it was about the nature of Putin and Donald Trump.

If you watched the 2016 election cycle, you’re aware that Megyn Kelly – back when she was with Fox News – was generally able to get the better of Donald Trump during their exchanges. In fact her debate questions threw him off so badly that he felt compelled to attack her in sexist fashion afterward. So the upshot was that, whatever you think of Megyn Kelly as a journalist, Donald Trump was no match for her in their battle of wits. She won, he lost, he whined.

Then came tonight’s interview with Vladimir Putin. Megyn Kelly was sufficiently competent with her questions. She tried to ask some tough one. But she was simply no match for Putin in their battle of wits, and the entire interview came off like a congenial swing and a miss for her. So if Donald Trump is no match for Megyn Kelly, and if Megyn Kelly is no match for Vladimir Putin, then the logical conclusion is this: Trump isn’t within a mile of being able to wage a battle of wits with Putin.

That helps explain a lot about why Donald Trump, and America, are in the mess they’re in. Putin has been playing Trump like a fiddle for years, having figured out how to take total control of him, whether it be by loans or blackmail or whatever the tactic was. And Trump is so many rungs down from Putin on the scale of cunning and wit, Trump probably doesn’t even have the wits to figure out that Putin is smarter than he is. No wonder Putin bent over backward to install Trump in the White House. Follow Palmer Report on Facebook and Twitter. If you’re a regular reader, feel free to support Palmer Report
