Today saw the opening round of Senate Intelligence Committee public hearings into Donald Trump’s Russia scandal. One of the most startling revelations was that Russia had been targeting and sabotaging Trump’s Republican Party opponents during the 2016 primary race, meaning that Vladimir Putin had been trying to guide Trump into the White House long before his general election race against Hillary Clinton.

Cybersecurity expert Clinton Watts was called as a witness today before the Senate Intel Committee, which just happens to have former presidential candidate and current Senator Marco Rubio as a member. Watts informed the committee that Russia had been targeting Rubio, along with other of Donald Trump’s Republican opponents, with propaganda or fake news stories during the primary. This means that Vladimir Putin had been attempting to guide Trump into the White House from early on in the election cycle.

It also means that Putin didn’t meddle in the election merely to get some kind of revenge on Hillary Clinton, as has long been postulated. Instead, Putin was trying to make sure all along that Donald Trump would become President. This raises new questions about various suspicious events during the Republican primary season. For instance, was Russia involved in the planting of the National Enquirer stories about Ted Cruz’s alleged affairs?? And was original Republican frontrunner Jeb Bush’s strange total lack of traction a result of Russian meddling? Palmer Report’s research team is now reviewing various 2016 Republican primary controversies for evidence of Russian involvement.

In an odd twist, Marco Rubio also revealed (CNN) during today’s hearings that hackers with Russian IP addresses targeted him and his staff. However these did not happen during the primary season. One was shortly after he re-entered the Senate race, and the other was just days ago. This suggests that the Kremlin is actively trying to sabotage the Senate Intel Committee investigation into Trump and Russia by targeting the people on the committee. Contribute to Palmer Report
