Kellyanne Conway now target of House Oversight investigation

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

There are those who believe Kellyanne Conway should be under criminal investigation simply for having dressed up as Paddington Bear on inauguration day. But in more serious matters, Kellyanne – who still appears to have no job duties in Donald Trump’s White House beyond periodically embarrassing herself on television – is now the target of a House Oversight Committee investigation, and it could end up costing her job.

It all started when Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price was caught having chartered an absurd number of private jet flights for government business on the taxpayer dime. That ended up being so toxically scandalous that Price was forced to resign in disgrace. It’s since turned out that Kellyanne Conway was also on some of those flights, without any justification. This has prompted Congressman Elijah Cummings, the ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, to launch an investigation into her (link). Here’s why it’s going to get ugly for her fast.

Trump has already made clear that he was willing to throw Tom Price, his personal financial crony, under the bus in an attempt at making the chartered flight scandal go away. That clearly didn’t work, as House Oversight is still plowing forward with an investigation into the scandal. If Trump now forces Kellyanne Conway to resign, he just might be able to stop the bleeding on this scandal, at least for now. He’s consistently demonstrated that he’s willing to sacrifice anyone, even his loyal criminal henchmen like Michael Flynn, and his favorite jesters like Anthony Scaramucci, in order to protect his own personal interests.

So as Cummings continues to use his House Oversight position to investigate Kellyanne Conway and her scandalous ethical breaches, we wait to see whether or not Donald Trump decides she’s the next one who has to be sacrificed. Her decision to come out of hiding this morning, for a defensive appearance on CNN, suggests that she knows she’s in deep trouble.
