What is Donald Trump Jr trying to hide from the Secret Service?
Now that Donald Trump Jr finds himself at the center of his father’s Russia scandal, his every move is being scrutinized by the media and by the public. Considering the bumbling manner in which he’s acted in the scandal to this point, it seems just a matter of time before he says or does something which unwittingly incriminates himself and his father. So how is Junior handling things? By chasing away the Secret Service.
Donald Trump Jr is suddenly giving up his Secret Service protection, according to a new report from the New York Times (link). His ridiculous reason: he suddenly wants “privacy,” particularly during his hunting and fishing trips. Somehow, it’s taken him nearly a year – including the entire summer outdoors season – to decide that the agents were getting in the way of these activities. Instead, he appears to be trying to hide his behavior from the agents themselves.
Back when Junior’s meeting with Russian government representatives was first exposed by the media, one of Donald Trump’s inept attorneys tried floating the excuse that the Secret Service would have vetted anyone attending the meeting. This raised eyebrows, as Junior wasn’t even under protection at the time. It also prompted a public discussion about the fact that if Secret Service agents did witness a crime, they can be compelled to testify about it. Shortly thereafter, Trump forced the Secret Service to move its base from inside Trump Tower a trailer outside, suggesting that he was trying to keep the agents from being able to witness whatever he was up to.
Donald Trump Jr’s sudden decision to dump his Secret Service protection – at the same time his father’s Russia scandal is exploding and the first indictments are about to come down – raises questions about what he’s trying to hide from the agents. He may not be bright enough to figure out that they’ve already witnessed everything he’s done since his protection first began.
