Ivanka Trump officially abandons her one big campaign promise

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

During the course of Donald Trump’s campaign for president, his daughter Ivanka Trump only ever seriously weighed in publicly on one issue. She even went so far as to base her Republican National Convention speech around that issue. But now she’s revealing that she never cared about the issue to begin with, because she’s just given her father her official blessing to go in the opposite direction on that issue.

Ivanka spent the campaign marrying her own reputation and image to the premise that women should get equal pay in the workplace. She all but promised that she would get Donald to support the issue if he won the election. But seven months after election day, no such thing has happened. And today Ivanka pulled the plug on the issue entirely by signing off on Donald’s decision to end an ongoing study which would have helped prove that the gender wage gap exists.

Here’s how Emily’s list described what unfolded today: “Despite claiming to support closing the wage gap, Ivanka backs ending an Obama effort to actually close it” (link). It’s not that any serious person ever truly believed that Ivanka Trump ever cared about the wage gap issue, or cared about any issue. Sticking to principles, or even having principles to begin with, is not a concept that anyone in the Trump family understands. Still, today’s official shift in Ivanka’s stance is notable.

After this official flip flop on her supposed core issue, Ivanka Trump can no longer even pretend that she has any desire to steer her father in the right direction, or to curtail his worst instincts. Her words have never been anything more than an attempt at insulating her own personal brand from the damage that Donald has been doing to the family brand. At least after today, the media can no longer pretend that Ivanka gives a damn about the fate of the nation.
