Donald Trump goes on Fox News and has incoherent meltdown about Robert Mueller
Donald Trump’s own staffers admitted in a Vanity Fair profile last week that he’s “lost a step” mentally, and that they’re now trying to prevent him from doing media interviews. That effort didn’t seem to work on Friday, as Trump gave an interview to Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo. There is almost no way to overstate how poorly the interview went for Trump – particularly when it came to the subject of Special Counsel Robert Mueller.
Trump melted down across the board, at one point insisting that he only represents “rich people” and then in the next breath saying it was “very nice” that Russian President Vladimir Putin once stole a Super Bowl ring (link). Things got even worse when Trump was asked about Robert Mueller’s investigation into the Trump-Russia scandal.
When asked whether he would be willing to grant an interview to Mueller, Trump said “I don’t know.” This comes just a week after Trump’s own attorneys unveiled their new strategy of encouraging Mueller to interview Trump as soon as possible. In other words, Trump no longer recalls the strategy that he and his attorneys just got done working out. Then he added “I mean I – nobody’s asked me to do that.” (link) This represents a complete misunderstanding of how the process works, as Mueller won’t ask Trump to testify until the very end of the investigation. Then things got worse.
After Donald Trump baselessly insisted that “everybody’s seen” that there was no collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, he said “you have Senate meetings, you have Senate hearings and nobody has asked us to do interviews anywhere.” This came just a few days after his own former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski testified in Senate hearings, with other people in the Trump camp scheduled to testify next week. Trump appears to have no idea that his own people are testifying. Either he’s gone completely senile or he’s strategically faking it as part of a mental incompetence defense.
