Impeach him: Donald Trump hints he’s instructed Homeland Security to defy courts
It turns out going on vacation to Florida hasn’t prevented Donald Trump from continuing with his now days-long angry ranting about the various federal judges around the nation who have temporarily shut down his unconstitutional Muslim ban executive order. It’s not even clear if Trump is aware that multiple judges have ruled against him, as he seems to keep referring to them all as the same judge. But in any case, this afternoon he tweeted something which may actually prove impeachable.
Donald Trump has spent days rambling on Twitter about how the “so-called judge” is “ridiculous” and asking “What is our country coming to” when a judge can overrule a president’s executive order. It appears Trump has no idea that the Constitution gives the Judicial Branch that power. So while he’s free to tweet stupid opinions like this: “Because the ban was lifted by a judge, many very bad and dangerous people may be pouring into our country. A terrible decision,” he’s not allowed to instruct the federal agents under his command to defy the court’s ruling. And he basically just did that.
Trump’s likely impeachable tweet today went like this: “I have instructed Homeland Security to check people coming into our country VERY CAREFULLY. The courts are making the job very difficult!” That reads a lot like a wink and a nod toward his federal agents that they should go ahead and defy the court’s ruling by harassing and intimidating any Muslims daring to try to enter the United States. One Congressman has already stated his view that this kind of behavior is in fact impeachable.
Just two days ago, Congressman Joaquin Castro asserted that the House of Representatives will impeach Donald Trump if he instructs agents to defy the courts. And sure enough, Trump just winkingly did precisely that for all to see. It may be time for all us all to read up on Articles of Impeachment.
