As has been his custom since taking office, Donald Trump is currently hanging out at one of his out-of-state golf resorts instead of remaining in the White House and doing the job he was (not legitimately) elected to do. As he’s done so many times we’ve lost count, he’s ventured off to his Bedminster resort in New Jersey. This time there’s a twist: no one has any idea what he’s doing there.

The trouble began when the White House announced this morning that there was a “lunch lid” on the media until 6pm (link). That meant no updates would be provided of any kind regarding what Donald Trump was up to. It also left traveling reporters stranded in Somerset, New Jersey, which is eighteen miles away from Bedminster. Best we can tell, Trump’s people never did bother to properly fill in the media on what Trump is doing at the resort.

If he’s merely being lazily negligent by golfing, as per usual, they’d have just said so. Instead this raises the question of why Trump even went to resort. He’s supposed to depart imminently for New York City for a series of political meetings, where things will get even stranger, because he’s set to stay at someone else’s hotel instead of his own Trump Tower or Trump SoHo. But while the media should at least be able to get a glimpse of Trump here and there while he’s in New York, no one seems to know why he’s briefly holed up in Bedminster – and that appears to be how he wants it.

This raises a number of questions. On one of his previous trips to Bedminster, Donald Trump arrived at the Newark airport at nearly the same time a Russian oligarch’s private plane also arrived. During that trip, Trump ditched the traveling reporters in a windowless room at a hotel. Although we don’t yet know why, this time around he apparently didn’t want any prying eyes either.
