The Russia scandal is about to get even worse today for Donald Trump and Michael Flynn
Here’s the thing about Donald Trump’s decision to force out Michael Flynn as his National Security Adviser: it didn’t make the Russia scandal go away. Instead it signaled to everyone involved that the Russia scandal ran far deeper than anyone knew. The subsequent digging has led to the revelation that Flynn was one of at least seven Trump advisers who colluded with Russia. And now today’s the day that things are coming home to roost, because we’re finally about to get the key question answered.
The United States intelligence community cannot secretly eavesdrop on a U.S. citizen without a warrant for that person. If an agency had been listening in on Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak for instance, and it just so happened he jumped on the phone with Michael Flynn, that surveillance authority would not extend to Flynn’s words. And yet it’s known that Flynn’s words spoken to Kislyak were in fact transcribed by the intel community.
The intel community wouldn’t have done this unless they separately had eavesdropping authority on Flynn himself, which would have required a judge-issued FISA warrant on Flynn. If they had transcribed Flynn’s words in error, they wouldn’t have subsequently leaked it to the media, because they’d have been implicating themselves in a way that they would have known would have eventually exposed their own error. So it’s more or less easy to extrapolate that Flynn was indeed under some kind of warrant surveillance. Which means evidence was put in front of a judge that Flynn was conspiring with a foreign government.
This fact wasn’t lost on the House Intelligence Committee, which oversees the intelligence community. Rachel Maddow reported on-air on MSNBC last night that the committee has given the community until today to reveal why Michael Flynn was being eavesdropped on. That means we’re probably going to find out today that there was a FISA warrant out on Michael Flynn at the time he became National Security Adviser, and we’re probably going to find out why he was being investigated.
Was it because of the previously reported half million dollars Flynn was illegally taking from Turkey? Was it related to today’s revelation that Flynn illegally took money from the Russian government and multiple Russian companies? Or was it related to the role Flynn played in the election by colluding with Russia on Donald Trump’s behalf Stay tuned. Contribute to Palmer Report
